How does my song get on Spotify?
Spotify works with distributors that deliver audio, artwork and metadata in the industry format DDEX. You create your release with us, we automatically assign an ISRC to each track and a UPC to the release, check audio and artwork and deliver everything on your chosen date. After approval, Spotify usually needs only a few business days. If you're hoping for editorial playlists, still plan three to four weeks ahead.
How much does it cost to release music on Spotify?
Spotify itself charges artists nothing. The cost comes from the distributor, and there are three models: annual subscription, fee per release, or a share of earnings. Spotify for Artists: claim your profile and pitch songs
Once your first release has arrived on Spotify, you can claim your artist profile in Spotify for Artists. There you manage your profile picture, bio and Artist Pick, upload Canvas loops and see your listener numbers. Before a release, the free editorial pitch matters most: an unreleased song has to be submitted at least seven days before the release date. Earlier is better.
How much does Spotify pay per stream?
Spotify doesn't pay a fixed amount per stream. It shares part of its revenue based on each track's share of streams. On average the recording side gets around 3 to 4 US dollars per 1,000 streams, more or less depending on country and how many of your listeners pay for Premium. Land on the right artist profile
The most common mistake with a first Spotify release: the song ends up on the profile of another artist with the same name. That's why you look up your existing Spotify profile in the release wizard and link it. If you're new to Spotify, the first delivery creates your own profile automatically, and every later release lands there.

Create an account, sign the distribution agreement online and verify your identity. No setup fee.

Upload track and artwork
Audio as WAV, FLAC or AIFF, artwork at least 3000 × 3000 pixels. The automatic quality check flags clipping, format errors and wrong artwork sizes before Spotify rejects them.

Add metadata and credits
Title, genre, language, your Spotify profile, plus songwriters and producers. You can set up royalty splits for features or co-writers at the same time.

Pitch early

Collect pre-saves

Don't master too loud
Spotify normalizes loudness to about −14 LUFS. A very loud master gets turned down and loses dynamics on the way. More under LUFS.
Never buy streams
Spotify removes artificial streams and charges fees for affected tracks. Offers that sell streams or playlist spots can cost you the whole release.
Push your catalog on purpose
For older songs, Discovery Mode can increase algorithmic reach. In return you get a reduced rate on the streams it brings in.

Can I upload a song directly to Spotify?
No. Spotify ended direct uploads for artists in 2019. Music only gets onto the platform through distributors and labels, for example OGRECORDS™.
How long does it take for my song to appear on Spotify?
After our review and delivery, Spotify usually processes a release within a few business days. Allow at least one week, and three to four weeks for an editorial pitch.
