MANIFESTO

Built on 15 years of music industry — for indie artists.

Six theses about the music industry, distribution and self-publishing — and what OGRECORDS is changing about the status quo.

01

Indie artists have been treated as a deficit business model for 50 years.

Major labels, distributors and sub-publishers built a system over decades that splits royalties across many parties, accounts opaquely and delays payouts. Indie artists are the variable that has to adapt. OGRECORDS flips this: the platform adapts to the indie artist, not the other way around.

02

Commission should be paid for service, not access.

A 15-20% commission is only justified when the distributor delivers real value: A&R, marketing push, tour support. Pure file delivery to DSPs is a commodity service and should cost like one. We leave up to 100% with you.

03

Cashflow is existential for indie artists.

A 60-day payment cycle is tolerable for a major label. For an indie artist, 60 days between stream and payout is the difference between producing the next track and waiting tables on the side. We pay fast and manually — no minimum above €10, no payout fee.

04

Splits cannot be an add-on.

Royalty splits are the foundation of modern music production: producers, co-writers, features, sample licenses, investors. Yet almost every distributor hides splits behind a premium tier or caps recipients at four. With us, splits are default, unlimited, automatic — no upcharge, no tier.

05

Transparency beats branding.

We show streaming data daily, earnings immediately after DSP posting, splits in real time, payout status manually verified. We publish our roadmap openly, we host status pages on a separate domain, and we publish non-essential platform terms before you sign up. Trust comes from visibility, not from marketing-speak.

06

Ownership is non-negotiable.

You keep 100% of your masters, song rights, metadata and performance rights. We distribute — we don't own anything in your music. Non-exclusive, no catalog hold, no penalty fees on takedown. Anyone promising you "1M streams in 6 months" in exchange for your masters is not a partner, but a barker.

WHY NOW

Three trends that make old-school distribution uneconomic.

Streaming cuts are falling. Apple Digital Master and Spotify HiFi demand 48 kHz / 24-bit masters, making cover and master tools more important. AI tools accelerate mastering, cover design and genre tagging — what used to be premium-tier features is becoming a commodity. Anyone charging 15-20% today is selling a premium price for a commodity service. We're building for the world after this shift, not for the one before.
