SPOTIFY DISCOVERY MODE

More reachon Spotify.

Flag the tracks Spotify's algorithm should actively push — on Radio, Autoplay and algorithmic mixes. In exchange, Spotify deducts 30% of the recording royalty on those specific streams. You stay in full control, can turn it off anytime, and OGR doesn't earn anything extra.

How it works ↓
THE 30% RULE

30% reduction — on Discovery streams only.

Spotify deducts 30% of the recording royalty — only on the streams generated through Discovery Mode in Radio / Autoplay / algorithmic mixes. Your on-demand streams (search, save, playlist click, library plays) are unaffected. OGR doesn't earn anything extra on this reduction — it flows entirely to Spotify.

What gets reduced

Recording royalty on DM streams in Spotify Radio, Autoplay and selected algorithmic mixes.

What stays untouched

On-demand streams (user actively clicked), Discover Weekly, Release Radar, editorial playlists, AI DJ — all at full royalty rate.

What OGR takes

Nothing. The 30% goes straight to Spotify. We don't charge a markup, fee or cut on top.

HOW IT WORKS

Spotify prioritises your tracks in the recommendation layer.

Discovery Mode is Spotify's official promo program. You flag a track per song, and Spotify can actively push it in the algorithmic surfaces. It does not affect editorial playlists — only the places where the algorithm already decides what plays next.

Active surfaces

  • Spotify Radio (any radio mix seeded from one of your tracks)
  • Autoplay (what plays after the end of a playlist / album)
  • Selected algorithmic mixes (Daily Mix, On Repeat, …)

NOT affected

  • Discover Weekly
  • Release Radar
  • Editorial playlists (RapCaviar, Today's Top Hits, …)
  • AI DJ
  • User search + user-library plays
WHAT YOU GET

Four promises we stick to.

Discovery Mode is controversial — lawsuits, FTC letters, payola accusations. We take that seriously and build the flow with full transparency.

Per-track opt-in

You decide track by track. No album bundle, no all-or-nothing.

Cancel anytime

Off toggle applies immediately — your track leaves the DM pool, new streams flow at full royalty again.

Full audit log

Every click (on + off) is stored with timestamp, IP and the agreed disclosure version. Download the PDF receipt anytime.

30% reduction, transparent

We surface the disclaimer twice — before you click and on confirmation. You'll never lose 30% by accident.

FROM CLICK TO PROMOTION

Four steps. Fully traceable.

01

Track becomes eligible

OGR checks stream threshold (25 000 monthly listeners), track age (≥ 30 days live) and country whitelist in the dashboard. Status visible per track.

02

Acknowledge disclosure

Two mandatory checkboxes: you understand the 30% reduction and which Spotify surfaces use it — and which don't.

03

Open Spotify for Artists

We deep-link you into your S4A dashboard, where the actual toggle at Spotify lives. OGR persists the activation in the background for your audit log.

04

Track performance

DM-source streams are surfaced separately in your dashboard once we can split them out from the DSP reporting (Phase 2).

ELIGIBILITY

When are you ready?

Spotify's prerequisites — we mirror them in the dashboard so you never click a dead toggle.

  • ≥ 25 000 monthly listeners (rolling, last 28 days)
  • Track is ≥ 30 days live on Spotify
  • You have a verified Spotify-for-Artists team
  • Your country is on the DM list (DACH = yes)
FAQ

Common questions.

There's an active class-action (Capolongo v. Spotify, S.D.N.Y. November 2025) and a congressional letter (Clarke / Chu / Cárdenas) arguing exactly that. Spotify's position: not pay-to-play, just an algorithmic signal in exchange for a royalty reduction. Our position: we take the accusation seriously and disclose explicitly. You decide.
